You can, in fact, drive your car to the top of Mount Diablo. You will have to pay a vehicle access fee of $10 at the South or North Gate entry point to the park. Once you're in, you can drive your car all the way to the mountaintop to take in the magnificent view.

Can you drive up Mt Diablo at night?
If you want to go right up to the summit, you have to get out before 8:30 pm (sunset; from memory, in summer) since they close the gates to that part for the night. But there are camping sites at the lower reaches (which are still on the mount and promise fine views) which are accessible all the time.
